Autism Society - Oregon Chapter

what is autism?

There are many symptoms or behaviors associated with Autism, including little or no language, abnormal social interactions, repetitive behaviors, sensory integration issues, fine and gross motor skill issues, gastrointestinal problems, food allergies, obsessive compulsive behaviors and anxiety. Most people with Autism exhibit some to many of these symptoms, but only a few exhibit all of them.

On October 5, 2009, the National Children’s Health Survey found that the rate of autism in the U.S. is now at 1 in 91 for children ages 3-17. Oregon has one of the highest rates of autism in the U.S. If you haven’t already, you will meet someone with autism. People with autism want to lead fulfilling lives and make a meaningful contribution to society. Together, we can make that happen.
